El Merriekh Bentiu awaits South Sudan Premier League

Giants El Merriekh Bentiu are waiting the kick-off of the 2024/2025 South Sudan Premier League.

Last month the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) officially announced that ten teams will participate in the inaugural South Sudan Premier League including El Merriekh Bentiu.

SSFA explained that the teams were selected after an SSFA Board of Directors’ Extraordinary Meeting held on August 6, 2024.

The selection process for the participating teams was reportedly rigorous and teams were determined based on their standings in three groups, with the top three teams from each group securing their spots in the Premier League. Additionally, the highest-ranking fourth team from among the three groups was also selected to complete the roster.

SSFA made it clear that the Premier League matches will be played at the Juba National Stadium, Buluk Training Centre and the Wau Stadium.

El Merriekh Bentiu who represented South Sudan in the 2024/2025 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League losing out to Gor Mahia FC (Kenya) in the first preliminary round will be all out to prove a point in the inaugural South Sudan Premier League.

Group A (Wau): Salaam Aweil, Hilal Wau, Holy Family Rumbek

Group B (Juba): Malakia FC Juba, Young Star Torit, Lion Hunters FC Yei

Group C (Juba): El Merriekh Bentiu, Koryom FC Bor, Olympic FC Renk

Highest-Ranking Fourth Team: Nile City FC Yambio
