Four El Merriekh players make TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifier squad

The South Sudan national Football team will face Congo Brazzaville in a Group K match of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifier away on Thursday.
Four El Merriekh Bentiu players led by goalkeeper Juma Jenaro Award Anuk are part of the team that will battle Congo Brazzaville at the Stade Alphonse Massemba-Debat in Brazzaville.
The other El Merriekh Bentiu players summoned by head coach Nicolas Dupuis are Wani Ivan Adebo Vita, Atir Thomas Tom and Chol Peter Bentiu Daniel.
South Sudan is placed in Group K alongside Congo Brazzaville, Uganda and South Africa. The best two teams in the group will automatically qualify for the AFCON 2025 to take place in Morocco.

El Merriekh SC Bentiu striker Akinbinu scores two goals on national duty with Djibouti

El Merriekh SC Bentiu striker Samuel Akinbinu scored two goals for the national team of Djibouti in their two FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying ties played in the past few days.
The forward scored the consolation goal for Djibouti in their Group A 4-1 defeat to Burkina Faso on March 21st, and scored another in the heavy 6-1 defeat to Ethiopia on Monday.
Although Djibouti have lost all their six matches in the qualifiers and are placed bottom, Akinbinu has showed a lot of positivity in the matches for the team.
Akinbinu is expected to return to Juba to join El Merriekh SC Bentiu to prepare for upcoming matches in the Zain sponsored South Sudan Cup and the second round of the 2024/2025 South Sudan Premier League.

Three El Merriekh SC Bentiu players invited for national team duties

Three players from El Merriekh SC Bentiu are part of the national team preparing for two Group B FIFA World Cup 2026 matches to be played this month.
Defenders Pal Paul and Thomas Atir, together with Nelson Victor are the three players invited by national team head coach Nicolas Dupuis.
The Bright Star of South Sudan will face DR Congo on March 21st in Kinshasa, and later travel to battle Sudan four days later at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi, Libya
South Sudan are placed fifth in Group B of the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers with 2 points after picking draws against Togo and Mauritania, but lost to Senegal and Sudan.
After four matches played Sudan top the Group with 10 points, while Senegal are second with 8 points, and DR Congo with 7 points in third place. Togo who have collected 3 points are in 4th place and Mauritania with 1 point are bottom of the log.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.

Ex-International Justin Lado appointed El Merriekh SC Bentiu Interim coach

El Merriekh SC Bentiu has announced the appointment of Richard Justin Lado as the new head coach on interim basis.
Club Secretary General Wali Wunow Keah made the announcement on January 8th, 2025.
The former national team player will serve as the interim head coach as the Club continues to search for a permanent coach.
“Under Coach Richard Justin’s leadership, we look forward to building on our strengths and addressing the challenges ahead. We believe that with his expertise, our team will continue to develop and pursue success on and off the field,” said the Club Secretary General.
He said they are thrilled to have Richard Justin step into this role.
El Merriekh SC Bentiu will next face Holy Family FC in a South Sudan Premier League match on January 12th, 2025 at the Juba National Stadium.
