NEC head coach Mbalangu credits El Merriekh SC Bentiu after goalless draw in Kampala
South Sudan Premier League side El Merriekh SC Bentiu battled to a barren draw against Uganda’s NEC FC in an international friendly match played on Wednesday at the Nsambya YES Centre.
The two teams played a high intensity approach and creating some good scoring opportunities.
After the match, NEC FC head coach Hussein Mbalangu credited El Merriekh SC Bentiu for being a good team that plays good Football. “It is still pre-season, but you can see that the team from South Sudan is good with many skillful players,” said Mbalangu.
He made it clear that playing against foreign opposition like El Merriekh SC Bentiu was very welcome because it gives his players chance for match practice before the start of the 2025/2026 season.
Ibrahim Hussein, the El Merriekh SC Bentiu coach said that although they did not find goals, he was happy that his players adjusted well to handle the aggressive NEC FC team. “These build-ups are helping us prepare well for the new season,” he added.
NEC FC finished second in the 2024/2025 Uganda Premier League and will represent the country in the 2025/2026 TotalEnergies CAF Confederations Cup.
