Akinbinu goal not enough as El Merriekh SC Bentiu suffer defeat to Jamus SC in Premier League tie
Striker Samuel Akinbinu’s second half goal was not enough to propel El Merriekh SC Bentiu to victory against Jamus SC in a South Sudan Premier League match played on Saturday.
El Merriekh SC Bentiu suffered a 3-1 defeat to Jamus SC in a match played at the Juba National Stadium.
Jamus SC took a 15th minute lead with George Rodriquez scoring from close range.
But El Merriekh SC Bentiu returned with more determination after recess to attack in numbers. But Jamus SC again increased their lead when Mohamed Adil scored after 74 minutes.
Minutes later Akinbinu restored some hope when he pulled a goal back for El Merriekh SC Bentiu. The Reds kept pushing forward, but again conceded a third goal through Mario Taban at the stroke of full time.
The loss leaves El Merriekh SC Bentiu in 4th place with 31 points after 16 matches played. Kator FC who beat Karyom FC 6-1 in an earlier match lead the table with 46 points from 19 matches played, while Jamus SC are second with 44 points from 16 matches played, while Holy Family FC are third.

In-form El Merriekh SC Bentiu win South Sudan Premier League title
El Merriekh SC Bentiu are the 2025/2026 South Sudan Premier League champions.
Handled by coach Ibrahim Hussein, the Pride of Bentiu emerged champions on Tuesday after arch-rivals Jamus SC lost 2-0 to Holy Family FC.
The defeat of the arch-rivals SC means that El Merriekh SC Bentiu become champions since they lead the table with 63 points, with two more matches to be played, while even if Jamus SC winning the remaining two matches does not bring them close to the Pride of Bentiu.
El Merriekh SC Betiu who walloped Koryom FC 6-1 on Monday have two remaining matches against Al Ghazala SC and Jamus SC. They are also in the final of the South Sudan Cup 2026.
El Merriekh SC Betiu now qualify to represent South Sudan in the 2026/2027 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

El Merriekh SC Bentiu humbles Koryom FC 6-1 to move close to title
El Merriekh SC Betiu have walloped Koryom FC 6-1 to move closer to winning the 2025/2026 South Sudan Premier League title.
The table leaders increased their lead to 63 points with two more matches to be played.
Shabani Hussein netted a first half hat-trick, while Rehan Anger also scored before the interval to give El Merriekh SC Bentiu a 4-1 lead.
Koryom FC had taken an early lead through Ashiraf Asiku after 12 minutes.
Sampi Ousmane and Mohammad Musa added two second half goals to ensure El Merriekh SC Bentiu smiled away with a huge victory.
Ibrahim Hussein, the El Merriekh SC Bentiu head coach said he was happy with the performance of his team as they get closer to the climax of the League. “We need to keep working hard because the season has not yet ended,” added the coach.
El Merriekh SC Bentiu remains with two matches to be played against Al Ghazala SC and second placed Jamus SC.

Bangasi, Dara on target to earn important win against Wajuma FC
El Merriekh SC Bentiu have extended their lead on the 2025/2026 South Sudan Premier league log.
The table leaders defeated Wajuma FC 2-1 in a hotly contested match played at the Juba National Stadium on Monday.
After a goalless first half of missed chances, Justin Bangasi gave El Merriekh SC Bentiu the lead after 67 minutes with a well taken curving shot.
But Kon Malith leveled matters for Wajuma after 84 minutes from close range after a corner. Davied Dara scored the winning goal seven minutes into added time to ensure El Merriekh SC Bentiu pick maximum points.
El Merriekh SC Bentiu extended their lead to 60 points from 23 matches played, while Jamus SC are second with 52 points from 22 matches played.
